Local area

Neighbours and views and things to do

In the valley around Rhiwiau you will find friendly neighbours, great views, and a lot of sheep, cows, and wildlife. It is an area where you will hear Welsh being spoken as an integral part of daily life. You will also meet other people who have moved in to live here from elsewhere.

It is a quiet area but definitely alive with working forestry and farms around. We, like many others, regularly walk and bike (mountain and road) and horse ride in the forests and quiet roads around the house and further afield. We have produced some maps of local walks we can share with you or look at sites such as Discover Carmarthenshire. There are highly rated mountain bike trails in Brechfa forest close by. It is also possible to hire e-bikes from a local business. Click here for details and see whether you might like to give it a go.

Not so far from the sea either

We can see the sea (just) from the top of a nearby hill – it is still quite a few miles away, mind even asa the crow flies. But local beaches are well worth the drive. You can be at many in a hour – you may even find you have them to yourselves when you get there – perfect for an evening picnic. For suggestions please click here.

Things to eat and places to eat them

There is good local produce and some very good places to eat it. The neighbouring village of Brechfa has a very good community shop and a good post office/petrol station and well stocked shop at Gwalia. There are good food shops in Carmarthen as well as the usual supermarkets. For food shops with a difference click here. For suggestions of places to eat click here.
